About three months back we had this conversation in our office lounge after we had released an app for mumbaikar.com. What next ?

After a series of discussions we understood that so many of us @flipmedia were hard core movie buffs. Watching movies in the cinema was on the top of our entertainment list. From the list of suggestions, movie app scored number one. We had brainstorming sessions on what next and how can we go about building this app?. We did some rough sketches and kind of finalized on the final working version and it’s features.

Our creative team began their magic on the wire-frames and gave application the best look and feel. Technical team got final designs in few days and started working on the app code. Before starting the actual work we had to make sure that we did not repeat the mistakes we encountered during the first app production. Thanks to our creative team as they made our life harder with a nice but difficult to implement design.

Our challenge was to give the same look and feel and at the same time make the application responsive. Our creative team started working on the application icon. You can see how the logo got evolved

After working on the app for 5 weeks we completed the first version of Naviflix 1.0 and submitted to app store. Thanks to Google, Apple SDK Documentation and some great forums, without those references we would have been lost. After submitting the app we could not just wait, and we started testing it with our friends. They reported few bugs. We worked on them as fast as we could submitted version 1.1 to app store.

Naviflix Demo

Would like to hear your comments and suggestions on how we can improve the app. You can purchase Naviflix on the app store for USD 1.99

Once Apple announced about the new product iPad everyone is so angry for not supporting flash in the device. Apple is not completely avoiding flash. It is not supporting Flash in mobile devices like iPhone and iPad. I am truly in support with Apple on this as Flash is resource hungry. Supporting this technology will really give the end user a very bad experience. I have used flash on Netbook and trust me it is really a resource hog. It will make your Netbook totally not usable. I was not able to do get any good experience with all the site which Adrian Ludwig mentioned on his blog post “Apple’s iPad — a broken link?“.

Today morning I read this article on Shufflegazine “Is Apple turning evil?” and trust me I got angry. Why is the everyone complaining Apple for not supporting flash and they call it evil ? Give me a break. I am sure Tom Gara from The National was not sure what he was talking about.

Today I did a test on Macbook Pro to check how much resource a flash application can take. You will be surprised to see it takes more processing power than windows running in a virtual machine.

About Adobe: They are lazy, Jobs says. They have all this potential to do interesting things but they just refuse to do it. They don’t do anything with the approaches that Apple is taking, like Carbon. Apple does not support Flash because it is so buggy, he says. Whenever a Mac crashes more often than not it’s because of Flash. No one will be using Flash, he says. The world is moving to HTML5. – iClarified

I guess Apple is so true with their statement. Lazy Adobe fix your flash than complaining

It is released as beta (I really don’t understand what is the meaning of beta in Google. Can you believe Gmail) for windows alone. This browser is based on webkit rendering engine. which gives web developers a big relief in rendering issues and web standards. The good feature in chrome I really loved about is each tab runs in its own sand boxed environment. When an tab crashes it only the tab and not the whole browser.

Next step was to download the browser and test it. It was amazingly fast. And really felt the browser was really light. I loved the simple and efficent GUI. Creating application out web was really smart move. There is no option for extending the browser with extension and themes. May be it is on it way.

Will Google target it like Adobe Air?
Will Google create more API inside chrome to support their web application ?
Have thousands of question rising up my mind and only time will tell those answers. But these guys are planning big time to reach more market share in web. They have already started to advertise about the new browser on Google homepage.

Will chrome dominate the browser wars by end of this decade ?????

Yesterday morning I got the news from Engadget. I was bit scared to upgrade and I could not wait any more. Please read this blog which can guide you completely on jail break your iPhone.

Jailbreak iPhone 3G now

You can download the Pwange 2.0 which is used to prepare the 2.0 update firmware and you can use the update to restore your iPhone to new 2.0 firmware.

These are the things I did before I started the operation 2.0

Download the firmware using iTunes

Make a directory under your user mkdir ~/Library/iTunes/”Device Support” ;

Download Pwnage tool

Download the boot loaders 3.9 and 4.6

Prepare the firmware update file using Pwnage tool. After preparing the firmware it places the file on your desktop named something like “iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw”. The file name may differ and I am not very sure about it.

Now you can close your Pwnage tool and iTunes if it was opened.

You have to bring iPhone to DFU mode. To do that keep pressing power and home button as long as possible. It will kind of blackout and again it will boot and you have keep pressing. After like 15 secs you can see a image like below

Now open iTunes and it will go into iPhone recovery mode. Please click on restore button with option key pressed. Now it will show you a file dialog to choose the restore file. Please select the firmware generated by Pwnage tool.

Sit back and relax while the iTunes restores the new 2.0 firmware, activated, jail broken, and ready to use.

Everything works for me. I even bought MotoRacer game and it is awesome

All the best with your upgrade and thanks to iPhone dev team and hats off to their work
