It has been a while since I wrote anything on the blog. I don’t want to give any excuse as it was mostly being lazy. After a while I started to get a feeling what to blog and I was really running out of topics. Yesterday I got an email from WordPress team that their new version 3.0 is out. This gave me a reason to goto my blog and start updating the software. As usual the upgrade was smooth as silk and everything worked spot on. I even upgraded my plugins and themes so everything works fine. All my plugins except organizer is working fine in the latest wordpress 3.0

Apart from that I was busy past month updating iPhone app Naviflix. The new version is already submitted to the app store. Once it is approved I will share some the hurdles I crossed while development.

Some of my friends requested me to write a plugin which helps to move the media files in their blog to Amazon S3. I have written a simple plugin and once I get the space in wordpress subversion I will be posting more details about the same. I have uploaded my niece Afifa picture below.

If my plugin is working fine it should be serving the image from the S3 cdn.

It’s really hard to come back and write blog post after a long break. I am wondering for a long time what to blog and decided I will do a short summary.

Visited Riyadh in Saudi Arabia for client meeting
Had an one week vacation to Chennai for EID
Visited Trivandrum Flip office for a week
Submitted our 1st iPhone app, will post on its updates very soon.
Flip XMAS party yesterday and had a chance to meet few more flippers under one roof

Right now having a real hard time at office in managing few things. Wish me luck and give me some motivation

Buying an iPhone 3GS with du eShop in Dubai

Since the launch of iPhone 3GS by Apple I was waiting for this day. I was really excited to hear that iPhone 3GS was coming to Dubai through du.

Du announced that iPhone can be booked online with their online shopping portal with a booking fee of 200 Dirhams. So I made the online booking on 17th October 2009. I got a confirmation email about the booking and it stated I would receive another email by end of the month for completing the booking.

On 26th October 2009 I got an email from du that I can complete my order by paying the rest of the amount from their online eShop from 27th October 2009 midnight. So I went online at midnight and completed my order by paying the rest of the amount. I got an confirmation email that I should get the delivery in 3 to 5 working days. Today is the fifth working day and still I have no information about my phone delivery.

Yesterday I called up support to check the status of my order. They told me to email customer care. I emailed them to check my status. End of day I received a response from them

I checked my order detail and found a tracking number for Aramex. I called up Aramex and found that there is no documents with that tracking number. Wow!!! my shipment does not exist !!!!!!

Now I found that I can buy the unit directly from Du at Dubai Media City in building 14. This is the building right across my office. I am seriously thinking what the hell !!! Why did I do this booking by paying 200 Dirhams in advance, still waiting and no proper response from du customer support

Update: Just after I made this blog post I got my iPhone delivered. Thanks du for making our iPhone dream come true

Impounded my car at RTA Dubai for reckless driving

Last week I checked my RTA fines at Dubai Police website. I got shocked to see a new ticket which stated I had to impound my car for 30 days or pay 3000 Dirhams as fine. As it was too much money I decided to leave the car in the impound for 30 days.

Went to RTA booked my car for 30 days and parked it here

The whole process took 4 hours and my brother Thowfiq helped me on this.

charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. This team is doing a wonderful job by providing clean water to people where it is only a dream. They provide range of water solutions. These solutions include hand-dug wells, deep wells (boreholes), rehabilitations, spring protections, rainwater harvesting schemes, and biosand filters. As of today they have done 1,247 water projects.

Flip Iftar Party @ Reem Al Bawadi

This year we had flip Iftar party @ Reem Al Bawadi on Jumeria Beach Road. The food was amazing and everyone enjoyed it. The best part of the party was dessert and the sheesha. For the first time I tried Turkish coffee and I liked it very much. Sorry about the low resolution pictures that was the maximum my 1G iPhone could offer.

Everyone hogged nicely and had cool fun. It was a lovely evening
